SHAWN FARQUHARFriday 15th May
We are really pleased to announce that the multi-award winning and current International Close-Up Champion Shawn Farquhar will be presenting his Bread & Butter Tour Lecture for the members of the DMC and our guests. Members of other magic societies are very welcome to attend; just contact our Secretary for details. There is unlikely to be any member or guest wanting to attend this lecture who will be in any doubt as to who the Canadian magician Shawn Farquhar is or his undeniable talent within both Stage and Close-Up magic but his managment has provided the following 'just in case'... and the informal setting of The Darlington Magic Circle will be the ideal place to not only learn some new effects but also how to present your magic at a truly professional level. However, just in case you’ve missed all the excitement or not yet had the opportunity to see Shawn in action here is a brief outline of what you can expect… A lecture by Who? With an incredible number of international awards and a career that has allowed him to perform in over 36 countries and onboard some of the world’s largest and most luxurious cruise ships, he is still a relative unknown in the world of magic. Even though he has lectured and performed for most of the major magic events in world including the national conventions of the IBM, SAM, World Magic Seminar and Blackpool and has offered effects on the market including Tagged and MatriXpress he is still not well known. For the past half decade he has performed over 500 full evening shows to standing ovations of audiences numbering in the thousands and yet most magicians just say who? What will you learn? Well first and foremost how to be a better magician and how to begin to create your own original magic. You will of course also learn many of Shawn’s signature routines including MatriXpress, the fastest coin assembly ever; Photo Finish, a transposition with a twist; Torn 2 Pieces, the torn and almost restored photo; MagiCd, magic for the digital age; Tagged, a magic effect with a laugh; Signed card to wallet, too easy and yet deceptive; Blown away, a visual card effect; and the Deck Switch, the work behind the scenes.

In line with our growing reputation for being a relaxed and friendly society keen to promote magic we extend a warm welcome to members of all other magic societies. As usual this lecture is free to members with a nominal cover of a fiver for non-members. Absolute bargain. Please let your friends in magic know as we expect this to be a very popular event and places are going to have to be limited on a first come basis and by reserved places only. Strictly first come, first served and Reserved Seats only. Book early if you want a seat near the front next to Noels (President) comfy armchair! The meeting will start at 7.30pm and Shawn will take the stage from 7.45pm Do note that this is on the Friday rather than our usual Thursday so don’t take any bookings for that night and remember that as it’s the weekend you’ll be able to stay up later… but only if you’re good! The Darlington Magic Circle is really easy to get to as we are just off the A1 and on the East Coast mainline service. We have members all over the North of England including Cumbria, Lancashire & Northumberland who attend regularly.
