HOW TO JOIN

The Darlington Magic Circle welcomes everyone with an interest and enthusiasm for magic.  Most of our members are performers, professional or hobbyists, but we also have room for those interested in magical history, collecting magic memorabilia or purely have an interest in the art.  We make no dstinction between seasoned pros and absolute beginners so long as you are genuinely interested in magic, will fit in with the group and won't reveal any magic secrets you may learn to non-magic folk.

New members are usually brought along or invited to their first meeting by a current member who will let the Secretary know in advance but don't panic if you don't know any of us yet as all you need do is contact our Secretary and introduce yourself.

The Secretary, currently Iain Jae, will provide you with basic details, an application form and arrange for you to meet a member of the Executive Committee.  This meeting is very informal and  gives you the opportunity to ask any questions as well as permit us to find out a little more about you and why you would like to join us.

You will then be invited to attend up to four meetings as our guest.  This gives you the chance to see what we do, meet and chat with some of the members and  decide whether we are the society for you.  The members will also be taking the opportunity to see how you fit in with the group.  Prospective members are usually asked to leave at 9pm to allow members to discuss magic secrets more openly.

On your fourth visit you will be expected to perform an audition.  Don't panic!  If you need help with this, just let the members know.  The standard is not as important as your enthusiasm although it is worth trying your best to impress.  Non-performers have the option to present a talk about a subject related to their interest in magic  Following your audition you will be asked to leave and a vote is conducted to decide whether you will be invited to join us.

The current joining fee is £35 plus £10 annual membership.

We waive the joining fee for junior members.
